Steam Cabbage Recipe

I love to steam vegetables instead of boiling them to preserve the nutrients; here is a slim down version of my steam cabbage recipe. I hope you enjoy it. Do you have any low fat recipes?

Steamed Cabbage

Ingredients

1 small head of cabbage
1/2 cup of mixed vegetables(frozen or fresh)
1/4 cup of yellow onions
2 slices of bacon (optional)
1 teaspoon of olive oil
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of pepper

In medium size pot add two cups of water, place metal vegetable steamer in pot. Allow for water to heat up and start steaming. Add cabbage, mixed vegetables, onions, seasonings and olive oil in steamer cover. Let steam for 15-20 minutes for crisp vegetables. If you prefer your cabbage soft allow an additional five to ten minutes. Monitor the water levels so you do not scorch the vegetables.

Optional meat alternatives for a complete meal are canned corned beef, cooked sliced beef or chicken, add when the cabbage is about five to seven minutes from being done. If you add corned beef eliminate the mixed vegetables in the original recipe.

Weight Loss Diets

Just Do It!

We’ve heard that familiar phrase made famous by the Nike commercials. So why don’t we just do it? Well, actually it sounds a lot easier to say then to do it. Don’t you agree? Well I have tried countless weight loss products over the years and frankly, I have never stuck to any that amounted to a significant amount of weight loss.

However, I made the decision today to really make a difference in my life and set out on a plan to choose to eat healthier and incorporate an exercise program I can live with.

Mulling over the decision to do this was not easy, over the years I have loss weight to gain it back however; now that I am getting older it's imperative to maintain my health.

To lose weight over the long haul you need to lose the weight consistently, so I am aiming for two pounds a week. This may not seem like much but think about it, 40 lbs over 5 months. Not bad for a slow and steady weight loss.

Why not join me on my weight loss adventure; if you need to lose a few pounds or many pounds. Along the way I will share my recipes and you are welcome to share yours too.

No crash diets please we want to keep it healthy.

Bottled Water Or Tap Water

Which One Are You Using?

I was so afraid to drink my tap water due to the hype of toxins and pollutants, which could be found in the drinking water. Earlier last year my city came under fire due to improper water treatment reporting. So naturally I was skeptical of drinking my own tap water. In my distressed state I purchased water at Sams Club or the local grocery store, amid all the local reports of various communities finding lead in their water.

When I first begin to use bottled water the price was $3.49 to $3.99 for a 24 pack. As of the June the water is now around $4.50 to $ 6.50 for a 24 pack. It’s getting very expensive to use bottled water.

Being a little fed up with these prices and trying to maintain a budget; I called the city about getting my water tested to see if there were any harmful toxins in the water. They offered to test it for free, after two weeks I got the all clear.

So guess what? I stopped buying bottled and use my own tap water. If you are using bottled water and are fed up with the raising cost get yours tested. Call your local city or government office office to find out where it can be tested.

Clipping Coupons Are They Worth The Effort?

You Decide

Times are tight right now and I am a firm believer you do what must done in order to get through the tough times.

If you shop at places that double and triple coupons the savings add up. Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Kroger, Publixs these stores offer at least double coupons savings.

Here’s a new spin on couponing I recently discovered, coupons clipping companies they do all the hard work for you. Here is one company that does a great job. The Grocery Game check them out and save the headache.

In my opinion it works, I have saved quite a bundle by clipping coupons. I use to think it was a waste of time getting the Sunday paper and spending the time cutting and sorting.

To get the most use out of your coupons instead of filing them by item or category instead file them in a box or do as I have done use a small photo book that has clear sheets on both sides. This way you see them at a glance. I also file my coupons by the month they expire so I can take advantage of them all. If you are a stickler for details file according to the day they expire as well.

My willingness to take a second look at coupons has changed due to the spiraling out of control prices of food and groceries. I admit I am a lazy girl sometimes and at times would rather not take the extra time to do all the labor involved. So decide for yourself is it worth it.

Do you clip coupons or know of some other money saving methods we could use? If so tell us we would love to hear about it.

Thanks, for taking a look at my Clipping Coupons Are They Worth The Effort article.

Happy 4th of July!

Celebrate Responsibly

I know, I know, we will be cooking, grilling, driving, dancing, drinking and having a good old time.

Lets not forget the service men and women overseas and at home who risk their lives everyday to keep us safe.

Remember to keep it safe and have a great Fourth of July weekend and don't spend too much money!

Sticking To That Dang Budget

A Simple Method To Budgeting

Have you ever attempted to save for a special goal only to use the money for another purpose? Or have you put money in your checking account earmarked for a bill and spent it on a whim?

Well here is one solution perhaps may work for you. Try setting the money aside by putting it in envelopes marked with the intended use such as, cable bill, trip to the Bahamas or whatever the money is to be used for. Every time you get paid or get some extra money put it inside your special envelopes.

Another ideal is to stay away from the atm machine or obtaining money from the grocery store using your debit card. Establish how much money you need to get by on for the week and withdraw that amount and stick with it. This one technique will allow you to find out whether you are sticking to your budget or overspending on things you really don’t need.

Using cash for your everyday purchases may seem old fashion but it works. If you are concerned about carrying around a lot of cash only take what you need for that particular day and leave the rest at home. Don’t be tempted to use it for anything else other then what it is intended for. In doing this you practice self discipline in addition, how to live within your means.

Have you ever try this method before? Let me know what you think of my Sticking To That Dang Budget article.
